Spirit Ward Dragons are a special breed that ward off evil spirits—at least, that’s what the legends say. During nighttime festivals, people love to see these dragons, because they believe that the dragons guard against evil spirits. The dragons are dark-colored, but glow with a flame-colored internal light that has an intensity that they control.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dark Mother Belladonica, despite not actually being a mother, insists on being called her full title in whole. It's not actually an official title, but she insists on being called it. Nobody knows why.

Being a relatively young dragon, she's the subject of Grace Rule's parenting, and she despises it. She'll often run away from her and lead rebellions among other dragons that she knows.

Being a Spirit Ward, she has a strong influence on some superstitious dragons, especially hatchlings, and she'll use them to lead rebellions against her nemesis—Corin Deeth III. Honestly, anybody would want to lead a rebellion against him. Corin is a massive jerk.

He never takes Belladonica seriously, though. She's a young dragon compared to him, so he doesn't really mind the rebellions. After all, she's only leading hatchlings to battle.
