Bright-Breasted Wyverns are a breed of dragon easily recognized by their bright red markings. They are a small breed, only the size of a full-grown man. However, they have developed poisonous barbs on their feet to make up for their size. Their coloration is used to warn off potential predators of the danger, and is also used to attract mates. They are very social, and can often be seen preening in large groups.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Redcrest is best known among Silvre's Wyvern flock for his pensive demeanor. He is a thoughtful dragon in general, preferring to perch and ponder rather than join in the preening or showy fights that many Bright-Breasted Wyverns use to entertain themselves. Because of his quiet, introspective nature Redcrest has often been taken for stuck up or shy, especially since he often does not respond to people when they come upon him thinking. He does not speak unless he has something to say. Often, he simply tunes people out, because he would prefer thinking to talking. None of the clan truly know what he ponders, but they do know he is amazingly wise and gives solid though often hard-to-decipher advice when he bothers to respond to their questions. He practically never fights, but rumors abound of his prodigious skill- though again, the truth is shrouded in mystery. The only one who knows is likely Leafwing, his quiet companion, though both are so quiet that conversation is rare.
