Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It glows brightly, and seems to prefer warm areas.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Smolder Hex was found to have an unpleasant pedigree, as her ancestors have interbred with each other. As such, the Keepers have judged her unfit for breeding for either profit or for pleasure. However, her Magi ancestry has meant that Smolder Hex has an affinity for magic. From time to time, the Keepers will run gentle experiments on the hatchling, learning to determine what she can or cannot do.

The hatchling doesn't mind, since it means she can play for long hours while being taught novice-level magic from the Keepers and Vex Glass.She also sometimes terrorizes the servants with minor hexes for fun and to avoid boredom, much to the amusement of the Mage Keepers.
