Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brazen Metal is a young, naive dragon. She is the daughter of Brazen Gold, who is known for his incredible pride and sense of self-worth. She despises her father for this, and tries to act humble as a member of the extended royal family. She also dislikes her mother, The Golden Infertile Queen, because of her cruelty towards her servants. She tries to fit in among the other royals, but she doesn't do very well. She has few friends, and because of this, she hopes to one day leave the kingdom to seek a home somewhere else, a more quiet and modest area to live in rather than the grand castle which she dislikes.
