When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Alan von Krieg has invested much time and effort in allowing Seafarer's Courage to mature to adulthood. For instance, he had an underground network of water-filled tunnels dug, and connected to an outside lake; to allow him to come and go from the catacombs of Castle Von Krieg. He stands apart from the other dragons, possibly due to being the furthest travelled of all of von Krieg's dragons. He has travelled to the high seas via lakes and rivers many times and has many tales to tell to his juniors. He hasn't been has as successful in the mating department, however, as he has consistently failed to find a mate. He desperately longs for a junior of his breed, so that he can adventure with them, instead of on his own.
