It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Larisha has a horrible memory, perhaps caused by being hit on the head when she was a hatchling. No one knows when or how it happened and every dragon in the cave denies knowing about it so the mystery remains. Despite her foggy past, Larisha lives the happy life...if she remembers to. Unable to hunt, as she often forgets what she's doing, the other dragons bring her back kills and remind her to keep eating whenever she stops. A dragon would be assigned to Larisha to prevent her from walking off the cliff, but no dragons wish to be responsible if something horrible happens. Thus, Larisha is secured to the cave wall with a manacle around her left leg and enough chain to wander the cave. Fortunately, for the males, Larisha can never hold a grudge so she is a prized mate among them. Of course, she never remembers afterwards but many males believe that to be a good thing.
