Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You find it odd that the hatchling doesn’t move at all during the day, but at night its colors change and it is full of energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Aafcien is Kowt's second-in-command; his memory for details makes him useful for organizing patrol rosters.  From careful observation, he knows the strengths and weaknesses of every member of the Junior Nocturne Guards, which allows him to help place them where they will do the most good.  His current project is finding a place in Dragontown for quiet, timid Rintia—his most demanding task yet.  Of all the Junior Nocturne Guards, Aafcien is the most serious, often giving the impression of an adult dragon trapped in a hatchling's body.
