Balloon Dragons are so named because they are filled with a gas that makes them almost lighter than air, similar to balloons. However, they are not prone to bursting, as they are covered in tough skin and can deflate themselves if necessary. In addition, they generally are slow moving. They use their gas bladders to float to the tops of trees, where food is more abundant. They can shift their weight from their backs to their fronts, allowing them to reach leaves and fruit.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Like her name, Bounce is playful and lively. She fortunately does not share her sister's habit of inflating so much she reaches the stratosphere; on the contrary, she likes to keep lower to the ground. Her family lives close to shore to compensate for her Terrcorn mother, Starfish. This means plenty of seaside fun for the young Balloon Dragons! Bounce's favorite game involves drawing a line in the sand the designate two courts. Then, selecting two teams of around six, they bat her back and forth over the line. Upon first glance, one might find it cruel how Bounce is used as the ball, but, be well assured, she loves it! Bounce also enjoys just generally spreading joy. Like her father, she has a knack for comedy and will spend her days making beach visitors laugh. Often, she involves an aspect of physical comedy, distorting her body to look bizarre and funny. She is very popular among young hatchlings.
