Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Z'ekiela is the leader of the mysterious Zeta tribe. Not much is known about this tribe, or its origins. To outsiders, it seemed as though the tribe appeared out of nowhere, and grew rapidly as dragons from other clans spontaneously changed their names and left their nests to join the tribe. Z'ekiela is the one who decides which dragons are worthy of being called to the tribe, and she uses her telepathy to reach out to them. She herself is uncertain why some dragons are 'worthy' while others are not, but she is easily able to tell the difference between them despite not knowing precisely what the difference is. Z'ekiela is a rather distant leader, and is only rarely seen by her tribe. Nevertheless, the Zeta tribe is very loyal to her, and new initiates alter their names to resemble hers in order to show their allegiance.
