Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The proud one in a litter of three, Rich is known for her high stature, deep voice, and unshakable confidence. She is proud of most everything in her life, from her own physical prowess, to fighting ability, to her family. Of course, for everything she praises about her family, she also feels just as much shame for other aspects. The best example is her gaggle of nieces and nephews, particularly the other Sapphires. She often addresses their physical weakness and snooty attitudes in not so subtle ways. This leads to their relationship being pretty hostile and tenacious. Otherwise, Rich is incredibly protective of those she cares about, mainly her siblings. She's pretty reckless when it comes to handling threats. She's the type to fire off, head-first into danger, with consequences being an afterthought. Rich is extremely hostile towards anything she deems a threat, particularly humans. She'll use her teeth and claws, reinforced by her muscular body, to maul apart any who approach her.
