Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Graceful, beautiful, and independent, Astra Mayeri could be described as a warrior princess in dragon form. She holds herself with a sort of quiet regalness that is seen in both the manner that she hunts and flies. Most of what she hunts would go to the little hatchlings since she helps takes care of them along with Loras Rosewater. However, if she considers someone a friend she will think about sharing her spoils of hunt with them. Quiet, logical, and methodical, Astra is the sort that thinks before she acts and would never share her opinion of something until she has thought it through.

Astra's best friend is Loras along with Caera Ibormeith, despite Caera's absent-mindedness. She has a fondness for Little Soul Reaper because of his beautiful night sky patterns and eccentric behavior but lo and behold, he doesn't seem to notice her at all. However, she can't get Narcissus Luminous to stop his advances towards at all and finds his narcissism thoroughly annoying.
