And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Behold, seeker of the dragon lore, Vaen d'falann of the Spring dragons. As his name says, his birth fell on the last days of spring before the heat of summer. It might be that this is the reason why he never fully grew up but remained in the hatchling state although his parents are rather experienced breeders. His scales are of a somewhat darker green than those of other Spring dragons, and the pink scales have a pale hue about them, like the drooping petals of a vaning flower. A faint smell of freshly-cut grass emanated from his body and he seems to be without a voice. Still, he enjoys his existence, as it seems. He roams the area around his parents' cave with his brother Ixekay who came to suffer from the same fate some autumns ago and both are still fed and protected by their parents.
