Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kovani is the alpha female in her clan's group of Blacktip dragons, and takes her job very seriously. Disorder, hostility, or rebellion from her subordinates will not be tolerated, no matter their gender or status. Total power is what she craved, and what she earned by gaining the respect of every Blacktip who's been unlucky enough to cross her. But Kovani soon found it can be lonely at the top, for no one pays her much attention at any time other than breeding season thanks to her group's terrible fear of her rage. She could just command them to give her attention, of course, but surely that would show weakness on her part. So Kovani continues to do what she does best, order others around and watch over her clan, wishing for a dragon who would willing watch over it with her.
