Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Tevvalitz has always believed that a dragon's character is far more important than their bloodlines. He doesn't even believe that a dragon should be judged by their parents, so the idea that having Thuwed ancestry makes one a better dragon is utterly preposterous. The Purefire Academy would thus seem to be a poor fit for him, as the dragons there believe in ancestry above all else, but he stays there to help counteract the influence of the leaders. Subtlety isn't his strong point, but luckily he has his mate's help.
