Lunate Wyverns are a strikingly-colored, medium sized breed found in temperate and boreal forests. While their topside is dark, their undersides are streaked with brilliant gold, white, and purple alongside the black. These dragons are omnivorous, eating berries, smaller animals, tender young growth of various plants, and anything else they can find. When threatened by a larger dragon, Lunate Wyverns attempt to startle them by flashing their bright underwings and opening the frills on the sides of their heads, which have reflective blue spots reminiscent of enormous eyes. When the would-be predator recoils, the wyvern flees, using their sturdy legs and tails to leap vertically. If they do become injured, these dragons have a strong affinity for healing magic that is specialized towards regeneration, and can even repair missing limbs and organ damage, though it does nothing for disease or poison. Lunates are largely solitary, but are not antisocial, and are quite friendly with others of their species and similarly-sized dragons when they do encounter them. They can become acclimated to human contact and treat them as friends as well, though this can lead to unforeseen problems: Lunate Wyverns are not picky eaters, and a human settlement that befriends a local Lunate may find the dragon routinely digging through their garbage for scraps.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.
