Caligene Dragons have long been considered omens of death—reinforced by the skeletal markings on their bodies. They exert a malignant force on the world around them, causing other living things to slowly waste away in their presence. Caligenes favor the seasons of summer and autumn, disappearing entirely from the forests they inhabit during winter and spring. These malevolent dragons are physically weak, though this is countered by their natural stealthiness and alarming speed—enabling them to close in on large targets quickly and silently to create ambushes from which prey cannot escape.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Frostbite's egg was found in a windswept crack high up the side of a mountain in Galsreim, far away from Breedery territory. Lurhstaap was out flying on the back of his favored mount, the golden Tinsel called Pogra, and spotted the egg in its precarious position. Concerned about the egg's safety in that spot, and the lack of any sign of parents, they decided to take the egg back to the Breedery. Now grown and named after her origins, Frostbite is the most loyal of the Revenga to the master of the Breedery. She insists on going with him when he goes hunting, and the others consider her kind of a suck-up. No one would dare say that in her hearing, though—among her fellow Caligenes she is quick to aggressively enforce her rank, with violence if needed. She refuses to defer to anyone but Lurhstaap, and sees only her fellow Alphas as her equals. She has a knack for using Ice mana to enchant her own natural weaponry for combat, and finds humor in making her name literal.
