This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

He is one of the best guards of the clan, he has an extremely sadistic and immature nature. He has a mind of an eternal child who likes to do tricks and mischief, but they all are usually deadly.

Despite his size he is an excellent killer that uses his agility and intelligence to fool and make traps to kill inconvenient invaders.

He likes to have fun with their prey before killing and is extremely tricky.

The only one to whom he is loyal is Emmet, whom he sees as a father.
