Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Fling with the Sky is fascinated by two things: the sky, obviously, and sky-blue sapphires. Hearing that Kad's clan had a large hoard of the latter, he left his first love—promising the clouds he would return—and planned to liberate a few jewels from their cave. Gold guardian Kurrenci ripped his wings apart upon his attempt, making him unable to fly again, but decided to keep him as a pet.

Although Fling's estimate of Kurrenci's size was wildly off, his estimate of the hoard's size was not. He has settled into a comfortable life watching over the gems in return for food and supervised trips outside. His "mistress" still doesn't entirely trust him, but her fears are totally misplaced, he thinks. After all, his fellow thieves probably wouldn't have waited this many years for him, or most likely they wouldn't...
