Spitfires are a desert breed of dragon. Their dull brown bodies contrast with their brilliant turquoise markings, and they only blaze brighter when these dragons fight. Spitfires are notorious for their territorial natures, and the wing-edges of most are ripped and tattered before their first year is out. Spitfires are also noteworthy for their brilliant blue fire, which is used not for hunting or fighting, but rather for making glass caves from the sand, in which the dragons can soak up the sun.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

GlassShard is the leader of DesertClan. He is mean and dominating, forcing other dragons to join. DesertClan dragons eat cactus, sand, coyotes and other eggs. Their camp is easy to distinguish, as there are eggshells everywhere.

GlassShard made a glass palace in the desert where he lives. All other dragons must have nothing but a small house of glass. If they build something big he destroys it. That's where he got his name from, he leaves shards of glass everywhere he passes.

He often goes on trips stealing hatchlings and eggs from the nearby prairie, beach and rainforest. He raises them to DesertClan warriors, or kills them if they are too weak. He also has the power to freeze hatchlings if they are too smart and could take his place.

All the female dragons are only allowed to breed with him, which is the reason why some males have mates outside from DesertClan.
