Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Born and raised in captivity, Draque Kuro was frozen at a young age, soon after he hatched. He was kept in a cage with a Skywing dragon. Upset by the cruel way the humans treated him, the Skywing helped Kuro to break free of the cage. The two dragons escaped, and went their separate ways. Kuro settled down with another black dragon in a forest in which the trees grew so thickly that it was dark most of the time. Since he started living in the forest, he grew wings and the other black dragon taught him to fly and hunt.
