Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The history of the Valley of Teeth is split into three distinct sections: Before Awesome, The Coming of Awesome and During the Time of Awesome.

For when this particular red dorsal's egg was laid on June 10th, everything changed.

The Valley radiated a vibrancy and spirit that it hadn't experienced in eons. Warriors ceased their conflict, sick eggs and hatchlings were cured of their ailments, and dragons on the brink of death suddenly sprang up healthy and strong again. Clan upon clan flocked to the site of the red dorsal's birth, falling to the ground to praise her awesomeness.

They dubbed her "The Awesomest Day in History", because that's what it truly was.

...at least, that's the way this dragon thinks it should be.
