It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xelta is rather intelligent and enjoys basking in the sun more than anything else. She's fiercely independent and quests to know everything there is to know. She had sworn off of males and mating for she saw them as setbacks in her pursuit of knowledge. Then a male Spitfire, Orak, came and ruptured the focus and predictability of her life. After a heated courtship in which Xelta did all she could to deny him, they finally mated and produce two beautiful hatchlings. Despite this, the two decided to separate and leave the hatchlings in the care of a trusted cave mate who encouraged the two to visit often. She still had not learned all she wished to know and Orak, ever the wanderer, needed to see the world. Once these two goals are met the two dragons will surely reunite their family.
