Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Desperate Dragoonage was the second Dragon Horse to hatch. She spent many years in the cold confines of the cave before migrating to the Plains of the Timeless (as it came to be known later to the Dragon Horses). Desperate Dragoonage was ambitious and outgoing. Her first victory was to become the mate of the leader of the Dragon Horses, Fleeting Fairytale. By his side, she ruled well and earned the respect of all her brethren. Although Fleeting Fairytale was the one who originally managed to inspire the Dragon Horses to migrate, she is the one who has their hearts. She handles all affairs large and small within the herd. She is the leader of the herd of Dragon Horses. She settles their disputes, controls the rations, and passes judgment on the condemned. Although her mate has some influence and say, she is the true leader of the herd. Because of her leadership skills, she earned herself the title Herd General. The Dragon Horses call her that out of respect.
