Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very festively colored.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Berry Juice Smudge is one of Phoenix's dragons. Playful, energetic and generous, she constantly tries to help others and is always seeking to please. She is popular among the other hatchlings, though consequently her generous nature tends to make her do all the work among them -- a tendency that she doesn't mind in the least. In fact, she seems to have absolutely no temper at all; no one has ever seen her even the slightest bit angry. It is a common joke among the other dragons that Berry is better at being a Christmas spirit than A Dance Beneath the Pines, for although they are of the same breed, Pine seems to be somewhat less interested in the job.

Berry is friends with almost all of the other hatchlings, but the ones she considers "best" are Treefrog Feet and Bones of Flame. They make a very funny-looking trio.
