Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gemma, or Princess Gemma as Jack still refers to her sometimes, has always been shy of meeting new dragons. Sometimes she would even run into the forest to avoid her parents if they were too pushy with her. It was on one of those occasions that she accidentally discovered the home of the drakes. Fascinated by their almost dragon-like appearance and behaviour, she started to study them and eventually, finding them to be reasonably intelligent, to train them.

Gemma's parents believe this to be an unnatural obsession, especially after she expressed her wish not to seek a mate. Every so often they will try to match her to one male or another, but so far they have been without success.

Self-appointed guardian of the Clementine drakes, Gemma is very protective over her charges. Despite this, her passion is so strong that she is eager to share her unique insights with any passerby, whether they like it or not. But with such an energetic attitude, it's hard not to share her enthusiasm.
