Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Twelve miles under the ice in Antarctica in a secret cave, one of several sparkling, crystalline eggs sitting on the floor stirred. Minutes later, a tiny winter dragon tumbled out of its egg, into the eerie light of the ice cave. It feebly looked around, taking in its surroundings. Then it emitted a tiny icy blast, followed by a hoarse roar. And so Roarfrost, ruler of the north, was born. Now happily situated in cave Ember, he at first had his doubts owing to the name of the cave, but then created his own little patch of winter in the back of the cave using his weather-controlling powers. In his first few days he became friends with Sicariss, Vasper, and Gaeva. It's a mystery why he mated with Twangle, she being a lively dragon who loves growing things. Roarfrost generally keeps to himself, but during the winter he is often seen outside, flying in the middle of one of his huge blizzards, or cooling other dragons off in the summer. He hates Ashfyre.
