Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Skywings of Mayfly Cave always felt separate from the other dragons. Sensitive to noise and the stale dragony air, they were disgusted by them, and never really understood their need to stay in the cave almost all the time. Ialuwing was the first, and the smartest of all the Skywings in Mayfly Cave, but his very competent intelligence left him with very little empathy. He could pretend to appeal to his Skywings' emotions, but in the end it was all for his benefit, all to drive the Mayfly Cave dragons away. If they could move out of the cave, they would have—but dangerous things lingered outside, too dangerous for most dragons to even fly out alone. Ialuwing lies in wait, keeping his Skywings governed separately from the rest, coming up with plans... waiting for the dragons to become vulnerable to his tricks.
