It’s an undead baby dragon, produced by a failed magical spell. It probably would be cute if it weren’t partially decayed.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Poor Nitefall. She barely had a chance to live before her life was snuffed out. Her parents, Dhusk and Dawyn, had to go through the horror of burying their child. But they didn't reckon on how much Nitefall loved her parents. That night she dug herself out of her shallow grave and came after her parents, asking them why they had abandoned her. She couldn't understand why her parents cried at the sight of her, or why they keep burying her. But she loves them, and wants to be a family again. And so she keeps on getting out of her grave to find her parents. Every night. Forever.
