And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling was forced out of its egg prematurely.

Dragonhaven Island holds many secrets, not all of them pleasant. Xayos and her companions were rescued by Myrnekal from one such hidden place, a vast graveyard of smashed eggs where nothing grew. She never speaks, drifting through the air as silently as a cloud. Normal daydreams can't influence the minds of others, but, like the Year's Children, Xayos is almost certainly under some kind of spell. Those affected by her powers report troubling visions of harm coming to other dragons, usually young ones, and feel strongly moved to seek out those they've seen to aid them.
