Spinel Wyverns are small, sleek dragons that zealously collect spinel gemstones to line their nests. They are very affectionate with those they bond with, and will happily spend hours grooming a dragon of a different species if allowed to. Spinels are well-known for their even temperament, but when offended, they are very slow to forgive and will never forget. These wyverns will readily perform tasks in exchange for spinels, and occasionally other stones. Occasionally, they can be born with iridescent pale green scales instead of the usual rich red-violet.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

This particular wyvern got his name due to his companion being a knight.

Originally, the knight had slain E'squire's mother because she was supposedly blocking the way past some mountains to a nearby kingdom, but in reality she was just defending her egg. Neighboring dragons had shown aggressiveness towards her and had attempted to steal her egg several times.

Taking pity on the egg, the knight took it with him back to his castle, whom he shared with other knights just like him. At first, the knight's associates would make jokes about "slaying the mighty egg" and would jab at it with their swords, but when the knight hatched the egg and showed his devotion to the wyvern baby, the dragon and human duo earned the respect of their peers.

Now E'squire is like a pet to the inhabitants of the castle. Some people would give him meat scraps as a treat or give him a pat on the snout. To help them, he acts as a scout, alerting the knights of danger or just helping to carry their swords.
