Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Atrum is one of the darkest of both Kinners' dragons and his breed. He is arrogant and stubborn, partially because of his anger at his inability to fly. His wings are small and torn, and simply look like extra fins on him. He wishes to be a part of the lineage known as Sith Lords, introduced to Kinners' dragons by the deep sea dragon Profundus Militis Darth. He often hits on Profundus, saying classy things that only a Sith would say, for example: "I know you are the one, Profundus! Together we could conquer the emperor and his puppet Vader and rule the world with an iron claw!" Of course, Profundus brushes him off by saying responses like the following: "Yeah. Right. Which world The world conjured up by your whimsical mind No thank you. I'm more interested in the real world." Of course Atrum is persistent, and constantly tries to prove himself by doing supposedly brave deeds.
