It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lilacdreamer has led her Clan for centuries, and even remembers the immortal human Feathers who led the dragons of this land before the Great War. Before the Weyr of Flame burned down what came before and built its own legacy in the ashes as if there had been no Featherwing Weyr. For many dragons now, that's true. All they've ever known is this tightly controlled, rigidly ordered life.

Lilacdreamer and her Clan have their own knowledge. Purple dragons master secret magics of fertility, and so they have the rare right of free travel around the territory to weave their magic in service of the Weyr. It's a right that Lilacdreamer negotiated for carefully. She prides herself on keeping that little scrap of freedom for her Clan. She can go where she wishes, and in her travels, she may even find dragons who have hidden from the eye of the Weyr of Flame. Dragons she can secretly visit and help with her magic.

It's a small thing, a tiny gesture of rebellion. But it helps to know she's helping.
