Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys running through a nearby pumpkin patch.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

"He's a Pumpkin!" "He's a Harvest!" "He's a mutant Cheese without the funky smell when left out in the sun!"

These ubiquitous screams ceaselessly permeate this poor hatchling's life. Simply put, nobody can ever decide what they want to call him. Pumpkin and Harvest are definitely the leading parties, but there are plenty of other less sense-making options out there. Yes, his egg smelled like the autumn harvest. Yes, he's the color of an underripe pumpkin. He does sort of have an amphibious look to him. But nobody's seen him sprout nine legs or turn into a human with wings yet, so a really, there's a lot less merit to most of these things than one would think.

Talk about identity crises. Poor messed-up kid.
