Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Fredrick Brady is a shy, quiet dragon that is too jumpy for his own good. The poor hatchling is tormented by other hatchlings, who sneak up on him and yell out anything, causing Fredrick to scream and launch himself into the air. He is the second son of Diamond Note and Jacob Brady, and he adores his big brother, Danny Brady. They are very close, though they are always silent. It is believed that they have a connection that stretches beyond the normal dragons' ability.
