Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Fastheart is a speedy gal who dislikes the fact she is often rejected from races by the male Horse dragons because either they don't want a girl humiliating them or get Fastheart's beauty ruined by the dirt that gets kicked up by their "ferocious" hooves. "Sorry, ya girl so ya can't join," they often say or, "Too many dragons. Besides, you're too pretty for this kind of rough business." Since there was no race to join, Fastheart remained angered until she came up with an idea—to start her own all-girls race project, where only female Horse dragons could join. After a while, leaders of Horse dragons began to relent around her area, letting more females join. However, with the new experience Fastheart has, she now surprises many other male Horse dragons with her agility and speed.
