Grave Dragons are not named for their connections to death or burial, but for the grave expression on their faces. This strange expression is used as a defense mechanism that causes fits of panic and terror in potential predators. Since they only eat ash and charcoal, they do not hunt. Grave Dragons are powerful fire-breathers and have been known to burn down forests and villages alike to make meals. It is believed that the markings on each Grave Dragon’s wings are the faces of those who have lost their lives in fires started by that dragon.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A very old male, this dragon long ago grew tired of the sport of hunting. The thrills of seeing the world burn beneath his breath now cause him nothing but weariness, the idea of setting ablaze a village or wood stirring only a sigh within his chest.

He has, however, discovered something else with which to keep his interest.

While all members of his breed are known for their strange eyes, which seem to possess some magical ability to strike terror into all who see them, this male has raised the game of staring into an art form. Enhancing his natural magic with powerful spells, he can hypnotize any who meet his gaze, forcing his victims to willingly approach him and tell him of their lives... after which he incinerates and consumes them. Many consider his behavior ghastly, but to one who's spent his whole life having to feed on the ashes of other living things to survive, it's nothing more than a good way to pass the time, entertainment and a story to go with the meal.
