Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It doesn’t move much, and appears to be covered in stone.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. However, the wings look too heavy to fly and are filled with beautiful crystal.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Erz is one of those sleepy little hatchies. While her friends are up and about, waking their parents before most Sunrise dragons get up, Erz will gladly stay in her cozy little nest until noon. And once the Sunset dragons come about and the Nocturnes start to move, many of her playmates will plead and beg to stay up a little longer to see the Moonstones fly. Erz of course can be found happily tugged in with a tiny cookie as her good night treat halfway on her way to the Dreaming already.
