Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts spring weather.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
User Description
Behold, seeker of the dragon lore, Vernalium of the Spring dragons. This hatchling's name is derived from the Latin word for Spring itself but even this didn't save the poor little creature from its fate. The egg was laid on the very last day of Spring so that when Vernalium hatched, the sun was already blazing aestival heat from the skies. Having missed its own season, it could not grow up—in fact, Vernalium couldn't even grow wings. The hatchling was found, all alone and emaciated, by a botanist studying the growth of grasses. She took the little creature home, tended it and very possibly saved Vernalium from death. After regaining what strength such a little hatchling can have, Vernalium began to accompany the botanist on her walks, chasing butterflies and seemingly very happy.
