Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Born with the same age-defying condition as L'yra; N'era has taken it upon herself to claim the pint-sized male as her life partner and sometimes goes as far as to prove it in a colorful, arched display of her fins when other dragons get too close. Whether it's lending a bold curiosity to the impish nature of the pair or prowling for others that are trying to take her place at the black's side, she often leads the clan into even more chaos inside the cave when the duo races around in playful games of tag for hours on end before they're found curled lazily together in one corner or another.
