Sunstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. Their social structure resembles a lion pride, with one dominant male and several females banded together with their young. They prefer arid climates where they can blend in and dig for minerals and gemstones that they not only collect, but eat. The more gems they consume, the larger their tail stone grows. They are an aggressive breed; it is not uncommon to see two males battling for mates and territory.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Like his counter part, Eldari of the Lunar Light, Ecryo of the Solar Light is charged with the protection of the Mountains of Elgar, save that his role is during the day. Raised as a hatchling by the human girl named Flight, Ecryo is the exact opposite of his sister, Eldari. He is easily angered and quick to strike at anyone who offends him or one of his siblings in any way (even if it's another sibling). However he is caring and underneath his fiery nature he holds a deep loyalty to those in the Mountains of Elgar. As a Sunstone dragon, Ecryo knew as a hatchling that his position would be to one day be a guardian of the Day, unlike his counterpart, Eldari of the Lunar Light, who only realized her position as an adult. Though the two have similar roles, Ecryo and Eldari never meet in one place at once, for to do so would go against the positions of the Sun and the Moon, the two beings that they represent. It is only during a Solar or Lunar Eclipse that the two are able to meet.
