Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Saddened Silver is known to be quiet and mysterious by the pack, but when he does have something to say it's usually negative. This is due to the beginning of his hatchling years. When he was first born everything was great. He was like every other happy little hatchling. For quite a while he and his family were very happy. Then one day, as his father said it, Saddened Silver's mother 'disappeared'. Though he was young, he knew what his father had meant, and he became quiet ever since. They haven't talked to each other still to this day. Many dragons tried to cheer Saddened Silver up, but nothing worked until Bitterly Sweet joined the pack. Though he did not like her at first, he quickly fell in love with the female hatchling. He usually says rude things to her (or says nothing at all), but he has always been her support and protection. Though he loves her a bunch, he feels that he doesn't deserve such a thing back, since Saddened Silver couldn't even protect his own mother.
