Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling is hard to see, but in the sunlight it displays brilliant colors.

And look! Its wings have grown large enough that it can now fly. It hardly ever leaves the air now.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Vansol was abandoned too early, when he was little more than an iridescent snake. A perilous journey avoiding predators and scrounging for food forced him to develop wings prematurely. He managed to reach the place of his wild ancestors, where he was found by the Dusk Divide Dragon Keep. His trials prevented him from reaching adulthood, and his stunted wings would never achieve more than a slow glide. It was only natural for him to acquire his quiet determination in the battle for his life—quiet because he'd never developed telepathy in words. He does not socialize but is known to hitch a ride on his surrogate mother Lucsola.
