Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Because she was raised outside of Blacktip Dragon society, Heron does not fully possess an alpha titleship, nor does she really care to have one. However, the instincts to back it are there. While she is normally reserved and quiet, the second Heron is wronged she takes on a whole new guise. She can be incredibly domineering and not just to male dragons. She possesses amazing physical strength for her size and breed and has an intimidating speaking voice that ensures she gets her audience's full attention no more than a word in. She doesn't usually flaunt this side of herself, preferring to keep it hidden as a secret weapon, but it should be noted this makes her the only child her mother is proud of. Heron lives separately from her parents, preferring to keep a distance from her family. She doesn't appear to have any ill-will towards them, but rather avoids them so as not to see the dark side of them. She knows well of her mother's reputation and wants to create her own instead.
