Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Stands-in-Twilight had been Utkena's chief rival for leadership of the pack for a very long time. He is savage and tenacious, wants the pack to have the best leader possible and honestly believes that he is that dragon. Or, at least, he did for a long time. Rises-Upward-From-Shadow's sudden, explosive entrance into and dominance of the pack shattered his confidence. Utkena nearly killed him with ease in their last challenge-duel, yet Rises-Upward defeated her (albeit not without earning some new scars of his own.) Twilight now watches and waits. He wants to take the measure of Shadow as a leader, and not simply a warrior, before he decides if he is still the pack's best possible leader or not.
