Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Moonwax hatched in the shadow of her mother, Mooncomplain, whose reputation for being loud and impious was a persistent cobweb clinging to her scales. She tried to show that she wasn't like her mother, that she was dedicated to the Moon's worship and her Weyr's order, but no matter how she tried, she still was rejected by most.

Everyone, really, but Moonwane, hatched the very same day as she. They were inseparable as hatchlings. He was mischievous when she was quiet, brave when she was meek. He took up for her and even her mother when others whispered behind their wings, and when they grew, she realized her heart had grown around his. That she looked for him eagerly every day, smiling his tilted smile or laughing her name.

Moonwax should have loved the Moon more. Perhaps if she had, the Moon would have granted her Moonwane for a mate. Not the stranger whose name the Moon wrote for her in Her light.

Moonwax tries to be devout, but seeing Moonwane folded in another's wings, she wavers.
