When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brightscales is a fierce sea dragoness, viciously guarding her lakes and joining tributaries until mating season. Then she allows her home to be shared with her mate and offspring alone. This, even, is new to her, as most of her life was lived in prideful guardianship over her waters, purposefully cutting off the outside world. It wasn't until a certain skywing dragon came dancing into her skies that her frozen heart would yield. Time has passed, and Brightscales is still as cold and harsh as ever, though you'd notice a time of the year when her waters calm and happiness overflows the banks. It only then that you'd find two lithe silhouettes, dark against the moon, twining together the crests of the waves and edges of clouds.
