When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As different for her friend Lavanie as night is from day, Janyae is known for her extreme modesty and humility. She sees herself as lower than anyone else in the clan, no thanks to Lavanie. It's difficult to get her to acknowledge anything right about her.

But she is one of the gentlest, most motherly females in the clan. She would not be friends with Lavanie if she wasn't. Janyae has helped the haughty female through many rough spots when her wings were broken. And while Lavanie would never admit it, Janyae is highly important to her and she treasures Janyae's soft spoken word of encouragement to everyone but herself.

Janyae often takes others' crap without much thought. She is easily bullied or discouraged, which is where Lavanie helps her. No one would dare cross the proud female; giving Janyae a better chance of keeping her kills when she makes them and even maybe one day falling in love. It may be an odd bond, but for Janyae and Lavanie somehow, it's just right.
