Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

McTingly is minty and fresh—tingly fresh! He is fastidiously clean, and makes a point to bath in the river everyday. After his bath, he always goes for a good roll in the large mint patch near the cave. Unfortunately, since he ends up smelling so strongly of mint, the adult dragons he lives with confine him to a side-cave to sleep in, so that his cologne of choice does not disturb them while they sleep.
