And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Necessity has tried his hardest to make himself indispensable to Dragontown residents.  Whether or not he's been successful is a matter of opinion, and depends largely on whether one is willing to overlook a certain amount of mischief.  Necessity does his best, but he is after all still a hatchling (and a perpetual one, too, thanks to a prank played on him that went terribly wrong), and prone to the occasional lapse of attention or burst of youthful high spirits.  He means well, though, and the residents mostly realize this, accepting a certain amount of mislaid mail or extra clutter with good cheer.
