Shadow Walkers are a strange breed that possess the ability to slip between the planes of reality, becoming immaterial. This allows them to hide in the shadows, either hunting from the concealment of near invisibility or evading enemies. Though they become corporeal to mate or to eat, they spend most of the rest of their lives walking in the shadows. Shadow Walkers are wary creatures, though on dark autumn evenings when the leaves fall to swirl in the chill, rain damp air, they may be seen drifting out from the shadows.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ghost of Laurentian Abyss—or Laurentian, which is the name he favors over his more formal title—is a fervent, restless dragon, harboring a deep dislike for bright lights and the majority of other dragons. This makes his position in Lumikkja's clan difficult. As one of her more prized dragons, he often finds himself swarmed by curious hatchlings, and sometimes adults. Laurentian wants no part in it. He only wants to be left to his own devices. He will socialize on occasion, and only with the few dragons he considers friends. He is close to Lumikkja's Avatars of Creation, as well as her Marrows and a few of her Black dragons. Otherwise he does not care for the company of other dragons, and he often isolates himself in darkness and layers of fog. He is quite adept at hiding, and uses his skills to vanish seemingly into thin air as he goes to find a quiet spot where he can close his eyes and be alone with his thoughts.
